We are a nation of “personal disc jockeys.” Given the opportunity, most of us can at least whistle the themes from some commercials, a few popular television shows and several notable movies. Now, we have the luxury of taking our “music” with us always, in the form of customized ringtones for our cellular phones. The simple ringing phone is passé.
The themes from the Harry Potter movies are no exception. As a matter of fact, you can easily download themes used in the entire series to your phone. Some of them are free and others are available for a small fee. Many people often change their ringtone several times per week, and then wonder why they never recognize that their phone is ringing. These ringtone themes are now ranked in the same fashion as the “Billboard” record charts, enabling us to check the popularity of a ringtone before we install it and learn that everyone else we know seems to have had the same “bright idea.”
Having a distinctive ringtone may be appealing, especially if you are surrounded by others who also receive a great deal of calls via their cellular phones. However, there are certain circumstances under which your phone should be turned off—period. Those of us who are seated next to you in a movie theatre, at a concert, or in church would appreciate silence from you and your phone during those times. It really doesn’t matter if we recognize the Harry Potter movie theme.
